Projects and workshops from summer 2008
I
Harris Middle School, Lowestoft, Suffolk.
In June I worked with pupils at Harris Middle School on a "Wearable Art" project for three days. There were twenty pupils in the group - five from each year group (5 – 8). They worked together in groups of four consisting of one pupil from each year group. The pupils visited the Carrow House Costume Collection in Norwich to make drawings, collect information and resources in preparation for my visit. Art teachers from other local schools attended an inset session where I demonstrated some techniques to use with recycled materials which they used as a basis for experimentation.
The project aimed:

Edmund de Moundeford Primary School, Feltwell, Norfolk.
I worked with all the pupils in this school in just one day on a "reclaimed materials" workshop with a jungle/snake theme. Key stage one pupils worked with me to start making the snake, it continued to "grow" after the day was over until it reached 6 ft! The Key Stage two classes made the foliage. Each class learnt how to make a different style of foliage using a range of plastic waste and a variety of joining methods - no sellotape or glue in this jungle!
The snake and exotic foliage exhibited in the school entrance hall.
Sculpture with Light and Recycled materials workshop as part of education programme of Salthouse 08: SEAhouse, LIGHThouse, SPIRIThouse exhibition, Norfolk.
This was a two day workshop for adults. We experimented with making small sculptures using transparent clear or coloured plastic waste and projecting light through it. These were placed in a tunnel-like pathway which had spaces where the sun shone through, so it would project patterns of shapes and colour on the walls and floor of the pathway.
And for something completely different.....
These glove puppets were made during a holiday workshop organised by Breckland District Council - it is amazing the number of uses for a milk bottle!
